Twisted Star
Cathy Busch

Cathy Busch is from Waverly, Iowa, and is an award winning quilter.  Also an author, her recent book, Newfangled Piecing, will be available at her workshop although it is not required.

Cathy's workshops are designed with a technical component while strongly encouraging participants to explore their creativity.

In this workshop, we will learn a sure-fire method to make perfect 3-triangle-squares, discover the secrets of partial-seam block construction, and see how easy it is to fit the pieced ribbon border.

Cathy's fun and innovative techniques will have you looking at quilt blocks in a whole new way.  Her strategies of eliminating seams and substituting easy-to-sew units, along with block construction methods, will streamline your quiltmaking.

Invisible Zig-Zag Applique

Jenifer Dick

This workshop is for those who are scared of the “A” word or who think they’ll never be able to appliqué beautiful quilts! (Or those who want to learn a new technique to add to their repertoire.)

By using this freezer paper method to prepare the shapes and stitching them to your block by machine, you’ll learn how to appliqué in a fraction of the time it takes to hand appliqué, with stunning results.

Using 3 different stitches you will learn mock hand applique with invisible thread, contemporary applique with a straight stitch, and traditional applique with the blanket stitch.

At the workshop, you’ll learn how to set up your machine with invisible and regular thread, how to prepare the appliqué shapes with freezer paper and how to remove the freezer paper after sewing the shapes down. We will work on an easy bird wall hanging, but will discuss how to use this method for any of your appliqué projects.

All students finish the quilt top in class and receive complete instructions for finishing the quilt at home.

Purchase of pattern required (available at the workshop for $10.00).
