The OCQG's next Quilt Fest will be held in June 2021 when
the Guild will be celebrating its 40th anniversary!
The Old Capitol Quilters Guild has already begun planning our next quilt show scheduled for early June 2021. Once again, it will be held at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Iowa City.
Members who are new to the Guild can get a better idea of what's involved by exploring the overview of the 2017 show. It includes lots of pictures showing quilts displayed on the pews and hanging from the balconies. The set up goes quickly and the visual impact is spectacular.
In addition to the display, we will have a “silent auction” area where items handcrafted and donated by members are available for purchase, so members should start thinking about what they might contribute. There will also be an area where children can work on quilt-related crafts.
In 2017 admission to the show was free of charge (we wanted to make it as accessible as possible to a broad cross section of the community), but we requested free-will donations. We then thanked donors by letting them draw tickets that could make them eligible for door prizes or gift baskets donated by shops in the area and by national designers and manufacturers. Members who volunteered for the show also received tickets and, in turn, a few went home with new goodies.
At the April 2019 meeting we began to ask for volunteers to work on the committees that will make it another successful show. We'll talk about it in a little more detail at the OCQG May meeting, but if you missed the April meeting and want to learn more now, you can download the Committee/Volunteer sign-up sheet that also provides brief descriptions of what each committee does.
Please feel free to contact either Pam Ehrhardt or Vicki Walch, the 2020 Quilt Fest Co-Chairs, with any questions or suggestions you might have. We’ll look forward to working with everyone on this wonderful project!
